This is not a diatribe about why you should stop smoking or a long list of the reasons you should give smoking up. If you want to carry on smoking, that's fine by me. And if my wife ever gives up smoking, I am leaving home!
But if you are thinking about giving up smoking, particularly as it has become almost impossible to smoke anywhere in public these days, this might help. It helped me to give up smoking because I refused to pay more than £4.00 for a packet of cigarettes. To some extent, I fantasised what I would do with the money I would save and I decided that I would use it towards paying off our mortgage. I have never smoked one since that day 12 years ago.
See for yourself just what a difference it would make if you quit smoking 20 a day If you saved it over the balance of your mortgage term at the interest rate you are paying for your current mortgage, its worth about half an average house. The calculator may not persuade you to quit smoking, but it should give you cause for thought.
Oh - and by the way - it will also just about half the cost of your life assurance
I recently succesfully challenged a DWP statement that a married couple were not entitled to Pension Credits. As a result, their income was increased by almost £175 per month
